Eleven Artists “Facing the Self”

This exhibition is about what happens when ten different artists each confronts their own likeness, for a variety of reasons, with a variety of means, in variety of styles and of course, with a wide variety of outcomes.

As it always has been, from Raphael, to Rembrandt, to Picasso, to Warhol, self-portraits are special. When artists present an image of the self, you see the mindful conscious part of an artist identity bearing witness to the outward physical appearance of that same identity. This is unique. There is no other identifiable image an artist can produce that will have this kind of visual presence.
